I came across this video recently, as I regularly follow Simon Sinek in order to watch his inspirational talks. This video really did make me think about my experiences in the workplace. I’ve often been in meetings and delivering training and have witnessed what Simon describes i.e. People not talking to one another and taking the time to build relationships, but engrossed in their mobile phones at every opportunity. If I am honest with myself I know I have been guilty of this too on occasion. I totally agree that building relationships and trust takes time and effort, but strong relationships will last a lifetime and therefore definitely worth it. This has certainly made me think about my own behaviour. Has it made you think about yours? Do you spend the waiting/break time in meetings and training sessions to develop trusting relationships or are you spending it building a relationship wwith your phone? If you are a Manager in the workplace – what example are you setting your team? What changes can you make now? I know what changes I am going to make!
